The event was open to the public, precisely business leaders, HR Professional and Entrepreneurs from various industry from Ghana and beyond.

Approximately 160+ attendees registered for this insightful webinar to educate themselves on the need to strategically plan for their future workforce, not only the short term but the future as well.

In our current talent-based economy, the labour force is arguably the most important tangible asset of most organizations. Despite its relevance, this forte is often not strategically planned and heightened. This presupposes that many organizations are not sufficiently aware of the current or future workforce gaps that will limit implementation of business strategy, hence the to discuss the relevance of strategic workforce planning to organization.

The success of every business depends on many things, one of which is strategic human resource planning. Poor human resource planning has a long-term and immediate influence on management policies, employee recruitment, corporate profitability, and organizational functioning. The success of any company or organization lies largely in the way the Human Resources are managed within the organization as mentioned by the moderator of the event.

The team together with other HR Consultants were invited as Guest Speakers, and Mrs Irene Ampomaa Ohene, the MD of SKAIK Consulting opened the discussion with the general insight and knowledge on the theme. She affirms that as HR Professionals, there is the need to effectively strategize your workforce by assessing what your currents talent needs are to enable you make inform decision about your future talents needs through the implementation of a strategy. She added that this can be done by understanding your organization’s business strategy and secondly, building a business case by leveraging on data in order to get management and business leaders’ commitment and approval in order for them to invest time and resource into it.

The second speaker Mrs Modesta Alhassan, HR Manager of SKAIK Consulting shared with attendees the link between workforce and business planning. She explained that business planning identifies the core competencies that the organization needs to achieve its goals and therefore its skill and behavioural requirements. She added that workforce planning interprets these plans in terms of people requirements however, it may influence the business strategy by drawing attention to the ways in which people could be developed and deployed more effectively, to further the achievement of business goals.

In Addition, Mr. Andrew Manomey, an HR Consultant, spoke on how strategic workforce planning can help your team and organization. He reiterated that strategic workforce planning aligns your HR Processes with Business Strategy; helps organizations prepare for the future, as well as identify talent gaps within organizations. He concluded by emphasizing that as HR Professional, we should suggest workable plans and communicate clearly to management with supporting budget. And be proactive in delivering and implementing of strategy to enhance business growth and continuity.

The fourth Speaker Mr Amo–Baning Baah, the Managing Director of Expects Consult Ltd addresses time frame, details, data, financials and forecasting as the major challenges associated with strategic workforce planning. He stated that when it comes to developing plans, managers usually focus heavily on yearly business goals. However, workforce-planning works best when it addresses long-term needs since it does not always show immediate results.  Mr Amo- Baning reiterated that companies’ financials should play a significant role in strategic workforce planning. If we want to maintain a high calibre of staff at post at the right time and yet the company is unable to pay their remunerations. Thus, no matter the strength of your workforce planning if your financials are not solid your best staff will leave to your competitors.

Finally, Mr. Joseph Nii Ankrah, an HR Consultant at Employable Resource Consult concluded by stating   simple systematic approach to Efficient Workforce Planning, which includes analysing your current workforce to determine future workforce requirements, performing gaps analysis to implement an action plan, and the execution and evaluation of these action plan and strategy.

At the end of their speeches, attendees were given the opportunity (30minutes) to ask questions and share real life insight into the theme. The webinar came to close at exactly 1:30 pm when the team of SKAIK Consulting were excited to reward small business owners who had joined the webinar with a complimentary Basic HR Audit of staff strength of 20 employees. We are grateful to the team, colleagues, attendees and myghanadaily for advertising the webinar to reach our target audience.
